PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the Roads Ordinance, 1869, it is among other things enacted, that if at any time previous to the first day of August in any year, a majority of the Ratepayers of any portion of a district described in Schedule B to the said Ordinance, should petition the Superintendent that a portion of the district to be specified in such petition should be formed into a separate district, it shall be lawful for the Superintendent in Council, by Proclamation to be inserted in the Government Gazette and one newspaper circulating in the district, to declare that such part of the district mentioned in the said petition should be a road district.
And whereas a petition signed by a majority of Ratepayers within a portion of the Cust Road District, being a district described in the Schedule B to the said Ordinance, was duly forwarded to the Superintendent, pursuant to the said Ordinance, and it was thereby prayed that the portion of the province therein mentioned might be formed into a separate district.
Now, therefore, I, ROBERT HEATON RHODES, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in exercise and execution of the powers vested in me by the said Ordinance, do hereby declare that the portion of the Province of Canterbury hereinafter described and heretofore comprised in the Cust District, shall henceforth be a road district, under the name of the West Eyreton District, that is to say—All that portion of the Province bounded on the north by the Cust District, on the east by a true north and south line drawn through Trig. Pole C 30, on the bank of the Waimakariri, on the south by the south bank of the Waimakariri, and on the west by the boundary line between Runs 14 and 84, 108, Class 2, and 35; 119 and 135.
Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this third day of September, One thousand eight hundred and seventy.

Now, therefore, I, ROBERT HEATON RHODES, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in exercise and execution of the powers vested in me by the said Ordinance, do hereby declare that the portion of the said Province hereinafter described, and heretofore comprised in the Malvern District, shall henceforth be a road district, under the name of the Upper Waimakariri District, that is to say—All that portion of the Province bounded on the north and east by the south bank of the Waimakariri, on the south by Staircase Gully, and the watershed over Mount Torlesse, to the summit of Porter’s Pass, by the West Coast Road, and the shore of Lake Lyndon, to the southernmost end thereof, and on the west by a straight line to the southernmost point of the Black Range, thence following the summit of that range to the head-waters of the Waimakariri.
