WHEREAS on the twenty-eighth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, did prorogue the Provincial Council till Friday, the fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy; and the said Provincial Council did stand prorogued accordingly.

Now, therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, the Superintendent as aforesaid, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in this behalf, do hereby further prorogue the said Provincial Council until Friday, the fourth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

Given under my hand at Christchurch, this twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

SHIP “CELÆNO.”

Lyttelton, Jan. 19, 1870.

SIR,—I have the honor to report that in the absence from Lyttelton of the Immigration Commissioner, I visited and examined the Immigrant ship “Celæno.”

I have much pleasure in reporting that I found every part of the ship in a most satisfactory condition, and all classes of passengers spoke in a most grateful way of the conduct of the captain.

The whole passenger accommodation being available for immigrants, the saloon had been fitted for the single women—an arrangement much to be approved of.

The single men were berthed amidships, instead of, as usual, in the fore part, so were free from the annoyance of the raising of coals and ships’ stores through their compartment.

The condenser (Gravely’s patent), had worked satisfactorily.
