PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the Roads Ordinance, 1869, it is among other things enacted, that if at any time previous to the first day of August in any year, a majority of the Ratepayers of any portion of a district described in Schedule B to the said Ordinance, should petition the Superintendent that a portion of the district to be specified in such petition should be formed into a separate district, it should be lawful for the Superintendent in Council, by Proclamation to be inserted in the Government Gazette and one newspaper circulating in the district, to declare that such part of the district mentioned in the said petition should be a road district.
And whereas a petition signed by a majority of Ratepayers within a portion of the Mandeville and Rangiora District, being a district described in the Schedule B to the said Ordinance, was duly forwarded to the Superintendent, pursuant to the said Ordinance, and it was thereby prayed that the portion of the province therein mentioned might be formed into a separate district.
Now therefore, I, William Rolleston, Superintendent of the said province, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in exercise and execution of the powers vested in me by the said Ordinance, do hereby declare that the portion of the Province of Canterbury hereinafter described, and heretofore comprised in the Mandeville and Rangiora District, shall henceforth be a Road District under the name of the Eyreton District:
That is to say, all that portion of the province bounded on the northward by the Oxford and Rangiora Road, the Oxford and Kaiapoi Road, and the centre of the Rangiora Main Drain, as at present existing, to the north bank of the Northern Branch of the Waimakariri; thence by that Branch to a point in line with the western boundary of the Town of Kaiapoi; thence by the western and southern boundary of the said Town to the north bank of the Waimakariri; thence by a straight line drawn to the westernmost corner of Section No. 669; on the west by the Cust District, and on the south and east by the south bank of the Waimakariri from Trig. Pole, c. 30, to a point opposite the westernmost corner of Section No. 669 before mentioned.
Given under my hand at Christchurch, this 4th day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.
