To THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
SIR,
We have the honor to report that we held, on the 15th and 16th instant, an examination of candidates for Government scholarships. We beg to submit herewith a statement of the marks obtained by each candidate. It will be seen that the four places of honor are taken in the following order:—Bean, 1st; Bird, 2nd; Herbert, 3rd; Knowles, 4th.
We have deemed it right to assign to Writing, as a mechanical art, and to Sacred History, as being learnt rather at home than at school, a lower maximum of marks than to Vol. XVII., No. 16.
