PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, entitled
"The Canterbury Temporary Mining Re-
serves Act, 1869," it is enacted that it shall
be lawful for the Superintendent of Canter-
bury, by Proclamation, to temporarily reserve
from sale any lands in which he shall have
good reason to believe that precious metals
exist. Provided that no such reservation
shall continue in force beyond the end of
the Session of the Provincial Council next
after the issue of such Proclamation.

Now therefore I, William Rolleston,
Superintendent of the Province of Canter-
bury, by virtue of the powers enabling me
in that behalf do hereby temporarily reserve
from sale the lands described in the Sche-
dule hereto.

Given under my hand at Christchurch,
this 29th day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
nine.

SCHEDULE.

Two hundred and eighty-three acres more
or less, situate in the Lyttelton district, at
the Head of the Bay, commencing at a point
on the road forming the north-eastern boun-
dary of section 447, the same being the
north-eastern corner of that section; thence
south-westerly following the south-eastern
boundary of section 447 to the north-east
boundary of section 2284; thence south-
easterly following the latter boundary a
distance of about thirty-one chains to the
western boundary of section 5170; thence
northerly, following that boundary and a
line in continuation thereof to the northern
side of the road forming the northern boun-
dary of section 5170; thence easterly,
southerly, and westerly, following that road to
mining reserve numbered formerly 1097 in
red; thence south-easterly, following the
said reserve to the road forming the south-
eastern boundary of sections 2144 and 5197;
thence north-westerly, following the south-
western boundary of the latter section to
the westernmost corner thereof; thence
northerly, following the western boundaries
of sections 5197, 2144, 1375, 1339, and 2375,
to the road first mentioned; and from thence
returning along the same to the commencing
point, exclusive of reserve No. 190 in red,
and roads. The land above described in-
cludes Improvement Preemptive Rights A
and B on runs Nos. 12 and 491, and also
Canterbury Association Preemptive Right
No. 70.
