Vol. XVI.] WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 1869. [No. VIII.

PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled “The Roads Ordinance, 1864,” it is enacted that if at any time the Ratepayers of a District shall refuse or neglect to elect Members of the Board, or if the Members of the Board shall refuse or neglect to carry the said Ordinance into operation, or to resign their seats thereat, and to make due provision for the election of other Members in their room, the Superintendent, with the advice of the Executive Council, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, shall declare the powers of such Board to be suspended, and shall by Proclamation appoint a Commissioner for such District, and thereupon all the powers, rights, privileges, and duties of such Board shall from the date of such Proclamation vest in and be exercised by such Commissioner on behalf of the Board:

And whereas the Road Board for the Port Levy District has neglected to carry out the provisions of the said Ordinance in manner aforesaid:

Now therefore, I, WILLIAM ROLLESTON, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, with the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby proclaim the powers of the said Road Board for the Port Levy District to be suspended, and I appoint James Harris, of Port Levy, to be the Commissioner for the said District.

Given under my hand at Christchurch this Fifth day of March, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
