REMARKS.
On the 5th a severe shock of earthquake was felt at about 8 a.m., slighter shocks also occurred during the remainder of that and the following day. The month was fine, though there was an interval of dull and rainy weather from the 8th to the 13th. On the afternoon of the 15th a heavy squall, accompanied by hail, came up from the S.W., and a severe gale from that quarter blew during the whole of the night.

HIS Honor the Deputy-Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserve, temporarily, under the 19th clause of the Waste Lands Regulations, for public purposes, viz. :

No. 1100, in red.—All that piece or parcel of land containing fourteen thousand acres, more or less, situate in the Lyttelton District, commencing at a point on the sea shore in Camp Bay, the same being the north-western corner of rural section No. 229a ; thence southerly and westerly following straight lines passing through the summit of Mount Evans ; thence to Rhodes’ Sugarloaf ; thence to Mount Herbert Peak ; thence to Mount Herbert, or Castle Hill ; thence to Kaituna Pass ; thence northerly following the Kaituna Pass road to the sea shore at the head of the bay ; and from thence returning along the same to the commencing point. Subject to Reserves and freehold land purchased to date.
