Remarks:
The weather during the month compares favourably with that usually experienced in May, although both the days and nights were about two degrees colder than the average for the month for the last five years. The air, however, was remarkably still. The mean velocity in miles per day for May during the last four years has been 131 miles, whereas during the month in question it was only 98 miles. Severe squalls from the S.W. were felt on the 3rd and 7th, the latter being accompanied by hail and sleet. A heavy fog occurred on the afternoon of the 29th.
