PROCLAMATION
By His Honor William Montgomery,
Esquire, Deputy Superintendent of the
Province of Canterbury.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled, "The Education Rate in Aid Ordinance, 1868," it is, inter alia, enacted that the said Ordinance shall come into force on such day as shall be appointed by the Superintendent by Proclamation in the Government Gazette.
And whereas by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, entitled "The Superintendent’s Deputy Act, 1866," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent of any Province by proclamation to be published in the Government Gazette of such Province to appoint such person as he may think fit, being an inhabitant of such Province and registered as an elector on the electoral roll of some electoral district within such Province to be his Deputy, and, as such, to do, perform, and exercise all the acts, powers, and authorities (except as is excepted in the 7th Clause of the said Act) which may be done, performed, or exercised by such Superintendent; and whereas by Proclamation in the Government Gazette of the Province of Canterbury, bearing date the Fifteenth day of July, 1868, I, William Montgomery was appointed Deputy Superintendent of the said Province.
Now therefore I, William Montgomery, the Deputy Superintendent as aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that "The Education Rate in Aid Ordinance, 1868" shall come into force on Saturday, the Twenty-sixth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Twenty-fourth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

EDWARD JAMES LEE, ESQ.,
to be the Revising Commissioner to revise the Ratepayers’ Rolls for the several Road Districts of the Province.
