ANNUAL REPORT

OF THE

BOARD OF EDUCATION,

FOR THE

YEAR ENDING MARCH, 1868.

To His Honor The Superintendent.

Sir,

The Board of Education has the honour to present its Annual Report for the year 1867-8, according to the terms of the "Education Ordinance, 1864."

The periodical reports of the Inspector of Schools, to be found in the Appendix to this Report, will afford general information as to the efficiency of the Schools, and their progress during the last year. It will be seen that, with few exceptions, the general standard is satisfactory, and that the staff of Teachers perform their duties with zeal and ability.

STATISTICS.

Since the date of the last Report, 5 new Schools have come under the operation of the "Education Ordinance, 1864":โ€”The Tai-Tapu, Cust, Leeston, Geraldine, and Hanewood Schools.

Of these, the Cust and Leeston Schools have been established in regularly constituted Educational Districts.
