PROCLAMATION
By His Honor William Sefton Moorhouse, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury.
I, WILLIAM SEFTON MOORHOUSE, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, being fully persuaded that all the inhabitants of the said Province, of whatsoever Religious Communion, will be alike desirous of publicly manifesting their thankfulness to Almighty God for the merciful preservation of the life of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh from assassination, do hereby invite the Heads of all Religious Denominations to give the Members of their several Communions special opportunities of expressing such thankfulness, on SUNDAY NEXT, the 29th instant; and I do hereby appoint MONDAY NEXT, the 30th instant, to be observed as a Day of Public Rejoicing throughout the said Province, in further testimony of the universal gratitude and joy on account of the providential escape of His Royal Highness.
Given under my hand at Christchurch, this Twenty-fifth day of March, One Thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
