โœจ Provincial Council Prorogation Address

18

It is my intention to take the earliest opportunity of visiting the West Coast Gold Fields. The importance of the interests of that portion of the Province demands the serious attention of the Government.

I concur in the opinion of the Council regarding the Railway to the West Coast, and shall take measures to carry into effect the Resolutions of the Council in that behalf.

Steps will be also taken for carrying out the Resolutions of the Council, having reference to Tramways in various parts of the Province.

Measures will be adopted for promoting legislation in the General Assembly, intended to effect those alterations in the Waste Land Regulations relating to Pre-emptive Rights suggested by your Resolutions.

I heartily join with the Council in the expression of its high appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the Province by Mr. Henry Selfe Selfe.

I trust that the labours of this as of all other Sessions of the Provincial Council will prove to be of advantage to the Province and to the Colony.

You will join with me in congratulating the province upon the approaching visit of His Excellency the Governor, a circumstance which will be grateful to the loyal feelings of Her Majestyโ€™s subjects in this part of New Zealand.

I thank you for the very laborious attention you have given to the business of a very protracted session.

I now declare this Council to be prorogued to the 1st of May, 1867.

W. S. MOORHOUSE,
Superintendent.
