BOARD OF EDUCATION.
INSPECTOR'S SUMMARY REPORT FOR THE MONTH.
(DECEMBER 28, 1866—JANUARY 31, 1867.)
To the Honorable H. J. TANCRED, Chairman.
Sir,—I have the honor to submit a Summary Report on business transacted during the month.
The Christmas and other holidays, and the early harvest have prevented the examination of schools. My time has also been fully occupied with the Quarterly and Annual Returns and Reports; in the Educational Depot; and in stock-taking, up to the 23rd of January, when I handed over the stock and management of the Depot to the Secretary of the Board.
Three candidates for appointments have obtained certificates of competency for the same, viz.:
Peter Cheyne, candidate for the Mastership of the Courtney School, examined on the 14th instant.
John Macfarlane, candidate for the Mastership of the Arowhenua School, passed his examination very successfully on the 16th instant.
Wm. Taylor, (examined on the 18th August last), has obtained a certificate as to his fitness for the Mastership of the East Selwyn School.
I append some memoranda additional to those, which in October last, I then made after revising the invoices from the booksellers hitherto employed by the Board. The books in the then last corrected invoice had not arrived; but on their arrival, and on unpacking and arranging them at such intervals as I could find, the errors appeared which are the subject of the present memoranda.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your obedient servant,
J. P. RESTELL,
Inspector of Schools.
