INSPECTOR’S SUMMARY REPORT FOR THE MONTH.
(September 28—October 25, 1866.)
To the Honorable H. J. Tancred, Chairman.
Sir,—I have the honor, (with reference to your instructions, “to submit a Summary Report on the Schools examined, and other business transacted during the month,”) to state that the full occupation of my time at the office has not this month permitted of the examination of any Schools.
One candidate, William Henry Wilson, for the mastership of the Riccarton School, has succeeded in passing his examination, as per certificate of the 19th instant.
Supplies have been made from the Educational Depot on 22 different requisitions, varying in amount from 1s. to £4 8s. 6d., and amounting in the whole to £21 6s.
I have prepared a routine for the inspection of 33 Schools during the remainder of the quarter.

(October 26—November 29, 1866.)
To the Honorable H. J. Tancred, Chairman.
Sir,—I have the honor, in obedience to your instructions, to submit a Summary Report on the Schools examined, and other business transacted during the month.
Thirteen schools, including 760 children, have been examined. I have also, in company with Mr. Cliff of Timaru, as valuator, visited the school-buildings in the Educational District of Waimate.
Seven candidates for Masterships have been examined.
Three competitively for the Prebbleton School, viz.:—
Frederick H. Digby,
James J. Elwin,
George Latham, Examined Nov. 5, 1866.
Each of the above candidates passed the examination satisfactorily.
Anthony G. Oldfield, for the Papanui Wesleyan School.
Richard Little, for the proposed Broadfield School.
Frederick W. Thompson,
George William Westropp, For any vacant appointment.
I forward a special report of the 27th instant, as to the result of this examination.
Thirty-three different requisitions for supplies from the Educational Depot have been satisfied, the amounts varying from 1s. 6d. to £5 8s. 4d., and the whole amounting to £34 8s. 9d.
