HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that a Writ, calling for an Election to be held for the return of a Member to serve in the Provincial Council for the Heathcote District, has been returned to him, with the endorsement that

VICTORIA by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith

To Bernard Mendelsson of Hokitika in the Province of Canterbury in the Colony of New Zealand Tobacconist

GREETING :

WHEREAS an action is now pending in our Supreme Court at Hokitika between James Hirsch of Hokitika in the Province of Canterbury in the Colony of New Zealand Ironmonger plaintiff and Edward Rich lace of Hokitika aforesaid Hawker defendant and in order that the plaintiff may proceed in his action we command you that you do retain and keep all and singular the lands hereditaments moneys and chattels bills and bonds and all other property of whatsoever nature in the custody or control of you at the time of the service of this writ belonging to the said Edward Rich or to me in which the said defendant shall at that time be legally or equitably entitled or otherwise beneficially interested in and whether solely or jointly with any other person or persons and all debts of any kind then due by you to the said defendant although the same or any part thereof may become due and payable on a future day. And we command you that you in your own proper person be and appear before such Judge of our said Supreme Court as shall be sitting at Hokitika on Wednesday the Fifteenth day of May next at ten o’clock in the forenoon and there to be examined touching the matters and premises and to do and receive what shall then and there be required and considered of you in that behalf and this you shall in no wise omit.
