REMARKS.
CHRISTCHURCH.
January, 1867.--The month opened with two days of very dry N.W. weather. On the evening of the 2nd the wind changed to S.W., and a few drops of rain fell, followed by a clear night, very cold for the season, when the radiation thermometer fell to 30.3°, or nearly 2° below freezing. On the same day the temperature in shade ranged from 73.8° to 41.3°, or 32.5° in the 24 hours. Light misty rain fell on the forenoon of the 4th. The 6th was the hottest day this summer; 88.9° in the shade, and 137.1° in the sun’s rays. Two cool cloudy days followed, and on the afternoon and night of the 9th there was a fall of rain equal to 0.627 inches.
