STATEMENT OF THE FUNDED DEBT OF THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF CANTERBURY,

ON THE 30TH JUNE, 1866.

ORDINANCE, 1856... £30,000 £30,000 8 per cent. 2 per cent. for first 3 years, 4 per cent for 12 years. 25th September, 1872 ... Nil. £7,925 £8,400, viz.— Wellington Debentures, £3000 New Zealand Trust and Loan Company, £1600 Canterbury Loan Debentures 1862, £1300. New South Wales Loan, £2500. Nett proceeds of Loan, £30,756 3s 3d, sold at 5 per cent. premium.
ION AND CHRISTCHURCH RAILWAY LOAN, 1860. £300,000 £200,000 6 per cent. 2 per cent. Thirty years from date of issue. Nil. £1,250 £2,500 on first issue; £2,000 on second issue; £5000 in Queensland Debentures. The second issue sold at par; of the third issue one-third at 91–92, two-thirds at 89; the fourth at 89½ nett; the fifth at 88.
£50,000 signed and cancelled same day, June 10, 1862. £50,000 issued on the 8th June, 1863. £50,000 do. 1st Jan., 1864. £50,000 do. 1st Jan., 1865. £50,000 do. 1st Jan., 1866.
ORDINANCE, 1862... £500,000 £370,000 6 per cent. 1 per cent. Fifty years from date of issue. Nil. £1,250 Canterbury Debentures Loan, 1862, £500. New South Wales Loan, £900. These Debentures realised £50,800 at sale of first issue, and the proceeds were carried to Revenue to refund Railway Expenditure 1862 and 1863. The third issue is taken at 90 by Messrs. Holmes and Co., in payment for work on Great Southern Railway, at par by Mr. Wright in Harbour Works Contract, and at 90 by Mr. Wright in West Coast Contract.
Of this sum £300,000 have been sent to England for negotiation, and are not sold yet. First issue of £50,000 in June, 1865. Second issue of £300,000 in January, 1865. Third issue of £20,000 1st July, 1865. No payments are calculated as due upon debentures which are issued, but not negotiated.
