PROCLAMATION
By His Honor William Sefton Moorhouse, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, bringing the Hokitika and Greymouth Telegraph under the operation of “The Electric Telegraph Ordinance, 1862.”
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled “The Electric Telegraph Ordinance, 1862,” it was enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, to bring under the operation of the said Ordinance any Lines of Communication by Electric Telegraph which might thereafter be made in the said Province:
And whereas a Line of Electric Telegraph has been erected between the Towns of Hokitika and Greymouth, on the West Coast of the said Province: Now, therefore, I, William Sefton Moorhouse, Superintendent of the Province aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said Line of Electric Telegraph shall be and is hereby brought under the full operation of the said Ordinance.
Given under my hand, this Thirteenth day of August, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

To Richard Henry Leary and Benjamin Taggart of Hokitika in the Province of Canterbury in the Colony of New Zealand Merchants
Greeting:
WHEREAS an action is now pending in our Supreme Court Hokitika between Robert Haworth and Thomas Haworth of Hokitika in the Province of Canterbury in the Colony of New Zealand merchants plaintiffs and Richard Reeves late of Hokitika in the Province of Canterbury in the Colony of New Zealand aforesaid auctioneer trading as Richard Reeves and Company defendant and in order that the plaintiffs may proceed in their action we command you and each of you that you do retain and keep all and singular lands and hereditaments moneys and chattels bills and bonds and other property of whatsoever nature in the custody or control of you or either of you at the time of the service of this writ belonging to the said Richard Reeves or to us in which the said defendant shall at that time be legally or equitably entitled or otherwise beneficially interested in and whether solely or jointly with any other person or persons and all debts of any kind due by you or any of you or either of you to the said defendant although the same or any part thereof may become due and payable on a future day.
