HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserve, temporarily, under the 19th clause of the Waste Land Regulations, for a Water Race for the purpose of supplying the Inhabitants of Timaru with water from the River Pareora; viz:—

No. 740, in red.—All that tract of land, two and a half chains wide, the centre line of which commences at a point marked A on the map of the Chief Surveyor of the Province of Canterbury, setting out and describing the rural land in the Timaru District, and situated on the northern bank of the River Pareora, about thirty-five chains, in a northerly direction, from the confluence of a small stream with the said river; thence following the centre line before mentioned, as indicated by a red line on the map above referred to, until it meets the road forming the south-western boundary of section 8299, at a point being about forty chains south-east of the south-western corner of that section, subject nevertheless to the freehold land purchased to date through which the reserve above described may pass.

In the matter of the Petition of Alfred St. John White, formerly of the Papanui Road, in the Province of Canterbury, Contractor, then carrying on business at the Greenstone Creek, West Coast Gold Fields, in the Province aforesaid, as a Storekeeper, and now a prisoner for debt in the gaol at Lyttelton.
