M’KINLAY, A.

AROWHENUA.

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the taproom, or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than twelve beds for travellers, in not less than five separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least six horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

Conditions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, same as Brown’s.

  1. To keep at all times a safe ferry-boat (punt) in good working order, and ready for conveyance of passengers across the Rangitata, between the hours of five a.m. and seven p.m. in summer, and between the hours of seven a.m. and five p.m. in winter. The fares to be as follows: For foot passengers to pay one shilling each, horsemen two shillings and sixpence each, between the hours above named; the fares to be doubled at all other times. Drays and other vehicles, five shillings; merchandise, per ton, ten shillings; wool, per bale, one shilling. Officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and police constables on duty, and prisoners, to be ferried free of charge. To afford every assistance in his power in directing strangers to a safe fording across the river.

RANGITATA.

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the taproom, or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than six beds for travellers, in not less than four separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least five horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

ORARI.

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the taproom, or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than fourteen beds for travellers, in not less than four separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least five horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

Conditions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 same as Brown’s.

  1. To keep at all times a safe ferry-boat (punt) in good working order, and ready for conveyance of passengers across the Arowhenua, between the hours of sunrise and sunset. The fare to be as follows: For foot passengers, sixpence each, between the hours above named, when the punt can be worked by a rope, and one shilling when the rope cannot be worked. For every horse, ten shillings. Officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and police constables on duty, and prisoners, to be ferried free of charge. To afford every assistance in directing strangers to a safe fording across the river.
