PROCLAMATION

By His Honor SAMUEL BEALEY, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, proclaiming a Gaol at Hokitika.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session VII, No. 7, entitled "An Ordinance for the Regulation of Prisons," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor from time to time as to him shall seem meet, by proclamation, to declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a public gaol, and after the publication of any such proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed and taken to be a public gaol:

And whereas by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled "The Empowering Ordinance, Session II, No. 2," it is enacted that the powers conferred on the Governors of New Zealand by the above-recited Ordinance are within the limits of the Province of Canterbury conferred on the Superintendent thereof; and whereas it is desirable that the building erected on the gaol reserve at Hokitika, in the Province of Canterbury, should be proclaimed a public gaol:

Now, therefore, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the said Province, by virtue of the powers vested in me as aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that the building aforesaid shall be deemed and taken to be a public gaol.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Twenty-first day of April, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled "The Roads Ordinance, 1861," it was enacted that if at any time the Ratepayers of a District shall refuse, or neglect to elect Members of the Board, or if the Members of the Board shall refuse, or neglect to carry the said Ordinance into operation, or to resign their seats thereat, and to make due provision for the election of other Members in their room, the Superintendent, with the advice of the Executive Council, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, should declare the powers of such Board to be suspended; and should by Proclamation appoint a Commissioner for such District, and thereupon all the powers, rights, privileges, and duties of such Board should, from the date of such Proclamation, vest in, and be exercised by
