Land Reserves




Provincial Secretary’s Office,
Christchurch, Feb. 5, 1866.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserves, upon the recommendation of the Provincial Council, viz.—

No. 90, in red.—Ten acres, more or less, situate in Little Akaroa, Banks’ Peninsula, commencing at the north-western corner of Section No. 409 on the Beach road, following along the western boundary of the said section in a south-westerly direction, a distance of six chains ninety links to the northern corner of section No. 773, thence south-westerly along the north-western boundary thereof a distance of nineteen chains sixty links to the road forming the south-western boundary of the said section 773, thence following the said road north-westerly six chains thirty links to the road first above mentioned, and returning along that road to the commencing point—For church and school.

No. 91, in red.—Fifty acres, more or less, situate in the Ashley district, commencing at the junction of the road east of section 767, with the North road, following along the latter road north-easterly a distance measured in a straight line of thirty-two chains thirty links to the Saltwater Creek, following down the said creek to the river Ashley, thence westerly along the said river to the road first mentioned, and from thence returning along the same to the commencing point—For a ferry reserve.

No. 93, in red.—Twenty acres, more or less, situate on the northern bank of the Wairarapa stream, commencing at a point on the northern bank of the stream, marked by a peg near the waterholes, about thirteen and a half chains north-westward of the north-eastern corner of section 199; thence north-easterly a distance of twenty-two chains in a direct line to another marked peg on the bank of the Wairarapa stream, and from thence along the bank of the stream to the south-westward and north-westward to the commencing point—For a gravel pit.

No. 95, in red.—Ten acres, more or less, situate in the Christchurch district, commencing at a point on the road reserved along the southern bank of the Waimakariri, the same being the north-western corner of section 538, following easterly along the northern boundary of that section to the old North road, thence northerly along that road to the south-eastern corner of section 465, following westerly along the southern boundary thereof a distance of ten chains fifty-five links to the road first mentioned, and from thence returning along the same to the commencing point—For a ferry.

No. 99, in red.—One hundred acres, more or less, situate in the Ashburton district, having about twenty-five chains frontage to the road reserved along high-water mark, and extending back westerly a distance on the average of forty chains, being bounded on the southward by the northern bank of the Rangitata—For a ferry.

No. 100, in red.—One hundred acres, more or less, situate in the Timaru district, having frontage of about twenty-five chains to the road reserved along high-water mark, and extending back westerly a distance on the average of forty chains, being bounded on the northward by the southern bank of the Rangitata—For a ferry.

No. 101, in red.—Fifty acres, more or less, situate above the town of Lyttelton, commencing at a point on the north-western boundary line of section 350, six chains twenty links from the south-western corner of the said section, thence north-eastward in the line of the said north-western boundary line of section 350, a distance of twenty-three chains, and extending north-westerly in a rectangular block twenty-two chains eighty links, subject nevertheless to a road one chain wide, reserved across and through this reserve from north to south, for which road allowance is made in the acreage—For a botanical garden.

No. 108, in red.—One acre one rood, more or less, being two sections of land, numbered 158 and 159 on the map of the Chief Surveyor setting out and describing the town of Akaroa, section numbered 158, containing one acre, and section numbered 159, containing one rood—Roman Catholic old church and burial ground.

No. 111.—Thirty-three perches, more or less, on the southern side of the town of Christchurch, being bounded on the northward by the road along the taupo creek separating this reserve from section 17, on the eastward by a road separating it from section 239, and on the south-westward by a road separating it from section 154—For a gravel pit.

No. 112.—Three acres, more or less, situate on the south bank of the river Heathcote, near Cashmere, being bounded on the north-east by section 562, a distance of three chains six links, on the south-east by a road along the foot of the hills separating this from section 551, on the south-west by section 549 a distance of one chain thirty-seven links, and on the north-west by the road along the river Heathcote—For a gravel pit.
