PROCLAMATION

By His Honor Samuel Bealey, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, bringing the West Coast Telegraph under the operation of “The Electric Telegraph Ordinance, 1862.”

WHEREAS, by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, entitled “The Electric Telegraph Ordinance, 1862,” it was enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent, by Proclamation in the Provincial Government Gazette, to bring under the full operation of the said Ordinance any lines of communication by Electric Telegraph which might thereafter be made in the said Province: And whereas an Electric Telegraph has been erected between the City of Christchurch and the West Coast of the said Province: Now, therefore, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that the said Electric Telegraph shall be and is hereby brought under the full operation of the said Ordinance.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Twenty-fifth day of January, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that in pursuance of the powers vested in him in that behalf, he has appointed the undermentioned persons to be Inspectors of Slaughter-houses for the several districts set opposite their names, viz.,—

Charles John Halliday Christchurch Dist.

Charles Davies Rangiora District.

William Henry Bickle Akaroa District.
