PROCLAMATION
By His Honor SAMUEL BEALEY, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, withdrawing certain Waste Lands of the Crown situate within the West Canterbury Gold Field.
WHEREAS, by Proclamations in the Provincial Government Gazette, dated respectively the Second and Fourth day of March, 1865, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in that behalf, did constitute and appoint certain portions of the said Province to be a Gold Field under the name of the “West Canterbury Gold Field;” and the limits of which Gold Field I did in and by the said Proclamations define: And whereas the Lands hereinafter described are Waste Lands of the Crown, and are within the said limits, and form part of the said West Canterbury Gold Field so proclaimed as aforesaid, and no Pastoral License exists over the said last-mentioned Lands: And whereas it has been made to appear to me that the Lands hereinafter described are necessary for public purposes:
Now, therefore, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in exercise of the powers delegated to and vested in me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that I do withdraw Lands hereinafter described; that is to say,—
All that piece or parcel of land, containing three acres three roods, more or less, situate on the northern bank of the Hokitika river, commencing at the junction of the Clogstoun road with the road reserved along the bank of the said river; following the eastern side of the first-named road; northerly, a distance of seven chains; thence easterly, at a right angle, five chains; thence southerly, at a right angle, eight chains, to the river and road before mentioned; and from thence returning westerly along that road to the commencing point.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing six acres, more or less, situate at the southern end of the lagoon at the mouth of the Hokitika river, commencing at the south-western corner of the South town belt, following the same easterly to the canal creek, and having a depth southerly of five chains.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing 94 acres, more or less, situate at the Long Ford on the Hokitika river, being bounded on the north-east, south-east, and south-west by Raft Creek, and a branch of the same; and on the west by the road reserved along the river bank.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing twenty-four acres, more or less, situate at the Long Ford on the Hokitika river, having a frontage of ten chains to the road reserved along the western bank of the river, and extending back westerly a distance of twenty-four chains, in a rectangular block.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing four acres three roods and twenty-four perches, more or less, situate at the Ferry over the Hokitika river, above the Long Ford, having a frontage of seven chains to the road reserved along the western bank of the river, and extending back westerly a like distance of seven chains in a rectangular block.
Given under my hand at Christchurch, this Eighth day of February, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.
