Land Reservation Notice




Provincial Secretary’s Office,
Christchurch, Sept. 15, 1865.

HIS Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserve, temporarily, under the 19th clause of the Waste Lands Regulations, viz:—

No. 274, in red.—Five thousand acres, situate on the West Coast of the Province of Canterbury, commencing at a point on the south bank of the River Grey, the same being the north-west corner of the Reserve for native purposes, containing two hundred and fifty acres, and numbered 34 of the General Government Reserves, in the Grey district; thence southerly and easterly following along the western and southern boundaries of the said Reserve to the River Arnold; thence following the western bank of that river in a southerly direction to a point on the same being one hundred and ninety-four chains measured in a straight line from the confluence of the before-mentioned Rivers Grey and Arnold; thence

westerly following a right line to a point being fifteen chains distant from and in continuation of the eastern boundary of the Reserves for native purposes containing two hundred and fifty acres, and numbered 33 of the General Government Reserves; thence following a straight line to the south-eastern corner of that Reserve and onwards in the same straight line along the eastern boundary thereof to the River Grey aforesaid, and from thence returning along the southern bank of that river to the commencing point:—This Reserve is made for the purpose following (that is to say) by means of the revenue to be derived from the letting, sale, or other disposition of the said land for coal mining purposes, to provide a fund for the improvement of the navigation of the River Grey and the improvement of the adjoining land and township.
