PROCLAMATION

By His Honor SAMUEL BEALEY, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, constituting and defining certain Districts under “The Slaughter-house Ordinance.”

WHEREAS by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Session VIII, No. 5, intituled “An Ordinance for regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for His Excellency the Governor, by Proclamation from time to time, to constitute and define certain Districts for the purpose of regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain places, and the limits of such Districts from time to time to alter as occasion may require, and also, if he shall see fit, to revoke the Proclamation by which any such District shall have been constituted: And whereas by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled “The Empowering Ordinance, Session II, No. 2,” it is enacted that the powers conferred on the Governors of New Zealand by the above recited Ordinance are, within the limits of the Province of Canterbury, conferred on the Superintendent thereof: And whereas by a Proclamation, dated the First day of August, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, certain Districts within the Province of Canterbury were constituted and defined for the purpose of regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle, the limits of which Districts it is desirable to alter: Now, therefore, I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the said Province, in pursuance of the powers so vested in me as aforesaid, do HEREBY revoke the said Proclamation; and I do hereby constitute and define the Districts specified in the Schedule hereunto annexed, for the purpose of regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Fifteenth day of July, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-five.

SCHEDULE.

CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT:

Comprising all that portion of the Province bounded on the East by the Sea; on the North by the south bank of the Waimakariri; on the West by the River Hawkins and a line drawn due north and south through Racecourse Hill to the Waimakariri; on the South by the north bank of the Selwyn, from the Hawkins to Lake Ellesmere; thence by Lake Ellesmere to the Halswell River, thence by a line to Cooper’s Knobs, thence along the ridge of the Hills to the Flagstaff on Mount Pleasant, thence to the Heathcote Swing Bridge, and thence by the estuary to the sea.

LYTTELTON DISTRICT:

Comprising all that portion of the Province bounded on the East by a line drawn
