  1. To provide not less than four beds for travellers, in not less than two separate bed-rooms.

  2. To provide a shed sufficiently weather-tight, and fit for the accommodation of at least four horses.

Conditions 4, 5, and 6, same as Birdling’s.

Conditions 8, 9, 10, and 11, same as Birdling’s.

Conditions 12, 14, and 15, same as Birdling’s.

THOMPSON, ANTHONY,

UPPER ASHBURTON, GORGE ROAD.

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house besides the taproom, or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than six beds for travellers, in not less than three separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weather-tight, and fit for the accommodation of at least four horses.

Conditions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, same as Birdling’s.

  1. Nil.

Conditions 13, 14, and 15, same as Birdling’s.

TURTON, WILLIAM,

ASHBURTON RIVER.

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in this house, besides the taproom, or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than twenty beds for travellers, in not less than six separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weather-tight and fit for the accommodation of at least twenty horses.

4 and 5, same as Birdling’s.

  1. To provide and keep in repair two good and sufficient stockyards for cattle, containing a superficial area of not less than 225 square yards each. For the occupation of these yards during the night, the licensee may make a charge at rates not exceeding the following, viz.: Twopence per head for all cattle under 50 in number, and one penny per head for all over that number.

  2. To provide and keep in repair two good and sufficient movable sheep-proof yards, containing a superficial area of not less than 900 square yards each, or, at the option of the licensee, to keep two acres of lands, each enclosed by a permanent sheep-proof fence. For the occupation of these yards or paddocks during the night, the licensee may make a charge at rates not exceeding the following, viz.: Sixpence per score for all sheep under 300 in number, fourpence per score for all over that number and under 500, and twopence per score for all over 500.

  3. To keep a lamp burning with two burners from sunset to sunrise, giving a sufficiently bright light, and being so lighted as not to be visible on the south bank of the Ashburton.

9, 10, and 11, same as Birdling’s.

  1. If required, to accompany foot passengers and horsemen across the river at a charge not exceeding sixpence for horsemen, and persons driving drays or vehicles at a charge not exceeding one shilling for each dray or vehicle, officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and police constables on duty, and prisoners to be put across free of charge.
