PROCLAMATION.

I, SAMUEL BEALEY, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, do hereby, pursuant to the provisions of the "Heathcote Bridge Ordinance, 1862," notify that the bridge lately erected on the said River Heathcote, at a part thereof in continuation of the Sumner Road, is open for public traffic; and that tolls may be levied, under the said Ordinance, at rates not exceeding the under-mentioned sums:—

For every horse, ass, or mule Three-pence.
For every horse, ass, mule, or other beast, with pack, Three-pence.
For all horned cattle driven without packs, per head... Two-pence.
For every wheeled vehicle drawn by one horse or other beast ................. Six-pence.
For every additional horse or other beast drawing such vehicle ............... Three-pence.
For every sheep, lamb, goat, or pig, in one drove not exceeding one hundred, One halfpenny.
For every additional sheep, lamb, goat, or pig ......... One farthing.

Double the above tolls before the hours of six a.m., and after nine p.m.

Given under my hand at Christchurch, this Twenty-first day of April, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-four.

Christchurch, April 19, 1864.

His Honor the Superintendent directs the notification of the following appointments in the Telegraph Department:—

Mr. George Bird to be Station Manager at Christchurch, vice Mr. Abraham Sheath resigned.

Mr. Gibbs Ross to be Station Manager at Lyttelton, vice Mr. George Bird transferred to Christchurch.

Mr. Stephen McCarty to be first Telegraphist at Lyttelton.

Mr. John Bull to be Assistant Telegraphist at Christchurch.

Mr. Charles Augustus Tippine to be Assistant Telegraphist at Lyttelton.

Christchurch, April 21, 1864.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that he has made the following Reserves, in accordance with Resolutions of the Provincial Council, for the purposes of Public Gardens and Recreation Grounds.

No. 305, in red.—Nine acres, two roods, twenty-four perches, in the Township of Geraldine; bounded on northwest by Talbot-street, on southeast by High-street, on southwest by Cox-street.

No. 306, in red.—Twenty-seven and a-half acres in the Township of Geraldine;
