SHADBOLT, BENJAMIN, Head of Akaroa Harbour. "The Travellers’ Rest."

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the tap-room or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than six beds for travellers, in not less than four separate bedrooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least two horses.

  4. At all times to keep a sufficient supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

  5. Same as Weeden’s.

6, 7. Nil.

8, 9, 10, 11. Same as Weeden’s.

  1. To keep at all times a safe ferry boat in good working order, and ready for conveyance of passengers from the head of the harbour to the town of Akaroa, between the hours of seven a.m. and five p.m. in summer, and between the hours of eight a.m. and four p.m. in winter. The fares to be as follows:—For passengers, to be 5s. each single passenger; for each passenger when more than one, 3s. 6d. Officers of the Supreme Court, Magistrates, and Police Constables on duty and Prisoners, to be ferried over free of charge. The word constable not to include bailiffs or persons serving civil processes.

SHAKESPEARE, EDMUND, River Halswell. "Shakespeare’s Accommodation House."

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the tap-room or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than four beds for travellers, in not less than two separate bed-rooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least four horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

SMITH, DAVID, Waituna Creek. "Smith’s Accommodation House."

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the tap-room or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than ten beds for travellers, in not less than ten separate bed-rooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least ... horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

  5. Same as Weeden’s.

  6. To provide and keep in repair two good and sufficient stock-yards for cattle, containing a superficial area of not less than 225 square yards each. For the occupation of these yards during the night, the licensee may make a charge at rates not exceeding the following, viz.:—Twopence per head for all cattle under 50 in number, and one penny per head for all over that number.

  7. To provide and keep in repair two good and sufficient moveable sheep-proof yards, containing a superficial area of not less than 900 square yards each, or, at the option of the licensee, to keep two acres of land, each enclosed by a permanent sheep-proof fence. For the occupation of these yards or paddocks during the night, the licensee may make a charge at rates not exceeding the following, viz.:—Sixpence per score for all sheep under 300 in number; fourpence per score for all over that number.

STRANKS, WILLIAM, River Orari. "Stranks’ Accommodation House."

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the tap-room or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than fourteen beds for travellers, in not less than four separate bed-rooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least five horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.

5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. Same as Weeden’s.

TURTON, WILLIAM, River Ashburton. "The Ashburton Accommodation House."

  1. All the premises to be kept in good repair. To provide in his house, besides the tap-room or room answering as such, one public and one private sitting-room.

  2. To provide not less than twenty beds for travellers, in not less than six separate bed-rooms.

  3. To provide a shed sufficiently weathertight, and fit for the accommodation of at least twenty horses.

  4. At all times to keep a proper supply of water for the house, and for horses and cattle.
