PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS on the Third day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, the Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury did Prorogue the Provincial Council of the said Province till the Fourth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and the said Provincial Council did stand prorogued accordingly.

Now therefore I, Samuel Bealey, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby further prorogue the said Provincial Council until WEDNESDAY, the FIFTEENTH day of JULY next; and I do accordingly hereby summon the said Provincial Council to meet for the dispatch of business in the Council Chamber, at Christchurch, on Wednesday, the Fifteenth day of July next, at Two o’clock, p.m.

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, the Second day of June, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

NOTICE.

“Arms Act Continuance Act, 1862.”
Provincial Secretary’s Office,
Christchurch, 2nd June, 1863.

His Honor the Superintendent directs the publication of the following dispatch from His Honor the Superintendent of Taranaki:—

Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth,
Circular No. 84.
7th May, 1863.

Sir,—I have the honor to inform you that a Taranaki Native named Te Meiha, or Big Jack (large boned, formerly a whaler, speaks bad English), left this, overland two or three weeks ago, and is reported to have gone South with several hundred pounds to purchase Powder, Caps, Guns, &c.

I would suggest for your consideration the desirability of steps being taken to prevent any breach of the Arms Act in your Province by Te Meiha or any other Native.

It is requested that all persons concerned in the “Importation, Sale and other Disposition of Arms, Gunpowder, and Warlike Stores,” will take every precaution to prevent a breach of the above Act.
