PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS, in accordance with Clause 3 of "The Municipal Council Ordinance, Sess. XIV., No. 2," a petition, praying for the District of Christchurch to be proclaimed a Municipal District, from the residents and householders in Christchurch, was published in the Provincial Government ‘Gazette,’ of the 24th December, 1861, Vol. VIII., No. 29, and no counter petition has been received since the date of such publication: Now therefore I, William Sefton Moorhouse, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, in pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Province, declare the District of Christchurch to be a Municipal District within the meaning of the said Ordinance, and that the boundaries of the said district shall be as follows, that is to say:--The said district shall be bounded on the north by the south boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 46, 206, 257, 243a, 263, 286, 287, and part of No. 6, from the North Road to the River Avon--a distance of 11 chains 30 links. On the east by the west boundary of Rural Section No. 33, the River Avon, the west boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 26, 175, 69, and part of No. 13. On the south by part of the north boundary of Rural Section No. 13, and by the north boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 176, 79, 17, 66, and No. 72, bounded on the north-west by the south-east side of the Lower Lincoln Road; and on the west by the west side of Antigua Street and the River Avon, containing 1062 acres, and that the name and style of the Municipal Council of such District as a Body Corporate shall be the "Christchurch Municipal Council."

Given under my hand, at Christchurch, this Thirty-first day of January, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-two.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified that, with the advice of the Executive Council, he has appointed, in pursuance of Clause 8 of the Municipal Council Ordinance, the Resident Magistrate at Lyttelton to preside as Chairman at a Public Meeting of the Householders and others of the Municipal District of Lyttelton, convened to assemble in the Town Hall, Lyttelton, on Monday evening, the 3rd February, 1862, at the hour of Seven o’clock in accordance with the notice in the Provincial Government ‘Gazette’ of the 16th and the 27th instant.
