HIS HONOR the Superintendent, in
accordance with clause 36 of the
Municipal Council Ordinance, directs the
publication of the following Petition for a
Municipality, received this day from the
inhabitants of Christchurch :—

TO HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT OF
THE PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY.

SIR,—The undersigned Householders, resi-
dent in the Town of Christchurch, respect-
fully pray that your Honor will take such
steps as are provided in the Municipal
Council Ordinance, Sess. XIV., No. 2, to
proclaim the district of Christchurch to be
a Municipal district. And your Memorialists
further pray that your Honor will recom-
mend that in consideration of the sale of its
Town Reserves, for the purpose of defraying
the Provincial liability to the late Canterbury
Association, the Town of Christchurch shall
be endowed by a considerable grant of money
from the Provincial Chest, and by the grant
of an adequate estate to provide for the
urgent wants of the City.
