PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, I, James Edward
Fitz Gerald, Superintendent of
the Province of Canterbury, did, on
the twenty-sixth day of November last
past prorogue the Provincial Council
of the said Province till the fifth day
of March next, and the said Provin-
cial Council did stand prorogued ac-
cordingly:—And whereas it is expe-
dient that the said Provincial Council
should be further prorogued,—Now,
therefore I, James Edward Fitz Gerald,
in pursuance of the powers vested in
me in that behalf, do hereby further
prorogue the said Provincial Council
until Tuesday, the second day of April
next; and I do accordingly hereby
summon the said Provincial Council to
meet for the despatch of business in
the Council Chamber at Christchurch,
on Tuesday, the second day of April
next, at twelve o'clock at noon.
Given under my hand, and issued
with the Public Seal of the
Province, this twentieth day of
February, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty-seven.

PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, by an Ordinance of
the Lieutenant-Governor and
Legislative Council of New Zealand,
entitled "The Arms Importation
Ordinance," Session VI, No. 1,
it was enacted that it should be law-
ful for the Governor to make provision
for regulating and restricting the
Importation and Sale of Arms, Gun-
powder, and other Warlike Stores :
And Whereas by a like Ordinance, en-
titled "The Arms Ordinance" Session
VII, No. 18, it was enacted that no
person should make, construct, amend,
or repair any Arms, Gunpowder or
other warlike Stores without a License,
to be for that purpose granted by, or
under the authority of, his Excellency
the Governor : And whereas, by an
Ordinance passed by the Superinten-
dent and Provincial Council of the
Province of Canterbury, entitled
"The Empowering Ordinance, Ses-
sion II, No 2," the powers conferred
on the Lieutenant-Governor of New
Zealand, by the above recited Ordi-
nances, were, within the Province of
Canterbury, conferred on the Superin-
tendent of the said Province : And
whereas his Honor the Superintendent
of the said Province of Canterbury
did, by a Proclamation bearing date
the tenth day of September, 1855, in
pursuance of the powers vested in him
by the aforesaid Ordinances, issue Re-
gulations for the importation, and sale
of gunpowder, arms, and other warlike
stores into or within, the said Province :
And whereas, it is expedient that cer-
tain of such regulations should be
altered, and certain restrictions should
be removed within the said Province :
NOW, therefore, I, James Edward
Fitz Gerald, the Superintendent of the
Province of Canterbury, in pursuance
of the power vested in me by the
above-mentioned Ordinances, and of all
other powers in that behalf enabling
me, Do hereby proclaim and declare
that, from and after the day of the
date hereof, the Regulations under
clauses 6 and 7 of the said Proclama-
tion shall be void and of none effect,
and that the following shall stand and
be in force in lieu thereof—that is to
say :—
Licenses authorising the sale, mak-
ing, and repairing of arms, and licenses
for the sale of ammunition will be
issued for one year, upon condition
only that every person holding a license
for the sale of ammunition resident
within the towns of Christchurch, Lyt-
telton, Akaroa, and Kaiapoi shall make
a return on the first day of every week
to be left with the Clerk to the Resi-
dent Magistrate's Court, setting forth
the quantity of gunpowder then lying
in his store, and every such person
failing to make such return shall for-
feit his license.

with the public seal of the
Province of Canterbury at
Christchurch, this seventeenth
day of February, in the year of
our Lord, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty seven.
