and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Tuesday the 3rd day of November next, at Mr. Torlesse's Woolshed, Teviotdale. The voting to commence at any time after 9 o'clock, a.m., of the said 3rd day of November, and to close at 4 o'clock, p.m., of the same day.

NOTICE.

Province of Canterbury to Wit.

AVON DISTRICT.

WHEREAS a writ, under the hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esquire, Companion of the most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-chief in and over the colony of New Zealand, &c., &c., bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven, hath been directed to me, Thomas Rowley, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the Avon District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, four legally qualified persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District. Now, therefore, I, the said Thomas Rowley, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Avon District, will be held in Mr. Gregg's barn, Riccarton, on Thursday, the 5th day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating four persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District; and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 6th day of November next, at the following polling places, viz.:

At the School Room, Papanui; and
At Mr. Gregg's barn, Riccarton.

The voting to commence at any time

after 9 o'clock A.M., of the said 6th day of November, and to close at 4 o'clock P.M., of the same day.

WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esq., Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c., &c., bearing date the fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, hath been directed to me, John Watson, as Returning Officer of the Akaroa District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, three legally qualified persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council for the said Akaroa District: Now, therefore, I, the said John Watson, Returning Officer for the said Akaroa District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the electors of the said Akaroa District will be holden at the Court-house, Akaroa, on Monday, the 2nd day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating three persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council for the said Akaroa District; and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place on Thursday, the 5th day of November next, at the Court-house, at Akaroa; at the School-house, Pigeon-bay; and at Mr. Tuson's house, Okain's bay. The voting to commence at any time after 9 o'clock, a.m., of the said 5th day of November, and to close at 4 o'clock, p.m., of the same day.
