Observations :
PORT VICTORIA.—Total increase in 1856, £14,578 18s. 4d. The chief item of increase is wool to the value of £21,000 ; per contra in agricultural produce there is a large decrease, viz.
on grain about £1,700, on potatoes and root crops £6,200 : sheepskins and tallow appear for the first time as articles of export.
The wool clip of the Summer of 1856 and 1857 may be estimated at about 2800 bales at from £20 to £22 per bale, worth about £60,000.
AKAROA.—The reports for 1856 appear as nil, no vessel having cleared out for any Ports beyond the seas this year, with produce of the district on board.
Whatever produce of the district was exported will have been sent in the first instance coastwise to Port Victoria, or some other Port for final clearance.
