Observations :
Port Victoria.—Increase in 1856, £1504 2s. 2d., attributable to increase of population, and to steady uniform progress of the Province. The duties for 1857 may be estimated at £18,000 at the present rate of collection up to date, (27 May.)
Akaroa.—Increase £297 19s. 0d., arises from the opening of a bonding warehouse, in April, 1856. Duties formerly paid at Port Victoria are now paid at Akaroa.

Observations :
Port Victoria.—Increase in 1856, £37 8s. 2d., on the contingencies arises from the additional clerical assistance required on account of the great increase in the number of returns ordered by the General Government, a chimney built, £15, and a weighing machine bought, £13. The salaries for 1855 appear higher than for 1856, owing to arrears for 1854 having been paid in 1855.
