NOTICE
Province of Canterbury to wit:
WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the 8th day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., as Returning-Officer for the Christchurch Country District, in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in form and manner by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Christchurch Country District, in the place of William Bayley Bray, Esq., resigned;
NOW therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., Returning-Officer for the Christchurch Country District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a
Public Meeting of the Electors of the Christchurch Country District, will be held at the offices of the Provincial Government in the town of Christchurch, on Thursday, the 29th day of January inst., at 11 o’clock, A.M., for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, for the Christchurch Country District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates, or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 30th day of January, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christchurch; in the Police Office at Lyttelton; and at Mr. Black’s store, Kaiapoi. The voting to commence at any time after nine o’clock of the said day, and to close at four o’clock, P.M. of the same day.
