T. B. KEELER,
For the Provincial Secretary.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, Nov. 18, 1856.

Sir,β€”

I HAVE to inform your Honor that, as communications direct from the writers, are frequently received by His Excellency's Government on matters relating to the administration of the Provincial Governments, it has been notified in the "Government Gazette" of the 11th instant, that all communications of that kind should in the first place be sent unsealed to the Superintendent of the Province to which they relate; in order that he might have an opportunity of accompanying them with such remarks as he may think necessary.

I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your Honor's very obedient servant,
L. W. STAFFORD.

His Honor the Superintendent,
Canterbury.

Provincial Secretary's Office,
November 29, 1856.

THE Provincial Government are prepared to receive tenders for the establishment of a Ferry over the south branch of the Waimakariri, at the cuttings; opposite the new Ferry House, on the North-road.

The Government will provide the Contractor with a house and ten acres of land on the south side, and a quarter of an acre of land on the north side of the river.

Tenders must state the rate of Fares for which the Contractor will undertake to work the Ferry.

The Ferry will be let for three years, and must be established not later than the 1st March, 1857.
