* NOTE.—This amount represents the extent to which the resident Colonists are willing and can afford to assist their friends in England to emigrate. But it is not to be inferred that the whole of this will be used. The Bills are drawn for half the passage money reckoning it at £24 a head but if it costs less, the Government remit the difference to the Bill drawer. Besides which, some of the Bills are never used, the parties for whose benefit they are drawn neglecting or declining to take advantage of them.
