Proclamation.

WHEREAS, I, James Edward Fitz Gerald, Superintendent of the Province of Canterbury, did, on the Fourteenth day of February last past, in pursuance of the Powers vested in me in that behalf, prorogue the Provincial Council of the said Province, until the fifth day of April next ensuing, and the said Council both stand prorogued accordingly;

Now therefore, I, James Edward Fitz Gerald, in further pursuance of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby further prorogue the said Council until Wednesday the Eleventh day of April next ensuing, and do hereby summon the said Provincial Council to meet for the despatch of business at the Council Chamber, at Christchurch, at One o’clock in the afternoon, on Wednesday the eleventh day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.

Given under my hand at Christchurch,
this eighteenth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five.

Christchurch, 20th March, 1855.

HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified for general information, that Writs for the Election of Members of the Provincial Council for the undermentioned Districts in the Province of Canterbury, having been issued, in accordance with the provisions of an Act of Parliament passed in the 16th and 17th years of the reign of Her present Majesty entitled An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand, and of an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of the said Province, entitled “The Provincial Council Extension Ordinance, Session III., No. 1,” The Returning Officers for the said several Districts have returned the said Writs with certificates to the effect that the undermentioned Gentlemen have been duly elected to serve as Members of the said Provincial Council for the said several Districts.

For the Town of Christchurch:

  • Charles Berjew Fooks,
  • Joseph Brittan,
  • Alfred Charles Barker,
  • Richard Westenra.

For the Town of Lyttelton:

  • Charles Robert Blakiston,
  • William Donald,
  • Henry Sewell.
