HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT directs it to be notified for general information that a writ for the election of a Member for the Christchurch Country District, having been issued in accordance with the clause 12 of an Act of Parliament passed in the 16th and 17th years of Her present Majesty entitled, an Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand:—The Returning Officer for the said District has returned the said writ with a certificate that the undermentioned Gentleman has been duly elected to serve as a Member of the Provincial Council:—

SIR,—I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your Honor’s letter of the 23rd of July last, transmitting a draft of the Land Regulations which have been recommended by your Honor and the Provincial Council of Canterbury to be issued in the General Government Gazette under the provisions of the “Waste Lands Act, 1854.”
These Regulations, I am further directed to observe, cannot, His Excellency is advised, be put in force consistently with the law.
