PENDING the approval of His Excellency the Governor, the Postmaster-General has been pleased to appoint

Mr. ARTHUR BAYFIELD
to be Sub-Postmaster at Christchurch.

NOTICE is Hereby Given, that on and after the 1st day of January, 1853, the Post Office at Christchurch will be open at Mr. BAYFIELD’S Establishment, Sumner Road.

TENDERS will be received at this office on or before Wednesday, the 28th inst., for the carriage of the Mails between Christchurch and Lyttelton. The Mail will have to be conveyed three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, to start at 10 o’clock, A.M., from Lyttelton, and at 3 o’clock, P.M., from Christchurch; the journey to be performed both ways in less than three hours.

The Contract to be for one year from the 1st January, 1854, to be terminable subsequently by two months’ notice on the part of the Government or the Contractor.

CONTRACT FOR FUNERALS.

Department of Charitable Aid, Lyttelton.

NOTICE is Hereby Given, that Tenders for the supply of Coffins and bearers, for Pauper Funerals at Lyttelton, will be received at the Police Office, Lyttelton, and for pauper Funerals at Christchurch, at the Superintendent’s Office, Christchurch, on or before Saturday, 31st Dec.

The Contract to be for one year from 1st January, 1854, and to be terminable subsequently by two months’ notice on the part of the Government or the Contractor.

I am directed by the Governor to authorize you, upon the request of His Honor the Superintendent of Canterbury to that effect, to bring into operation throughout the Province of Canterbury, the Government Regulations for the sale and disposal of the Waste Lands of the Crown of the 4th March last, and for the depasturing of the same, upon such a date as may be agreed upon between yourself and the Superintendent.
