THE following Regulations have been made by the Superintendent in conformity with the provisions of Section 51 of "The Auckland Waste Lands Act, 1874," and are now published by His Honour’s direction.

THE AUCKLAND WASTE LANDS ACT, 1874.
Regulations for the Occupation of Waste Lands of the Crown under the "Homestead System."
In these Regulations the words the "said Act" shall mean "The Auckland Waste Lands Act, 1874."
"Homestead System" shall mean the manner of dealing with lands open for selection without payment, but subject to provisions for cultivation and residence.
"Cultivation" shall mean planting any cereal or root crops, planting an orchard, vineyard, nursery or shrubbery, or planting forest trees, or laying down lands with artificial grasses.
"A permanent dwelling house" shall mean a building of the value of at least £50.
"Bush Land" shall mean any land covered with trees, in which are not included dwarf ti-tree or other shrubs.
"Open Land" shall mean any land covered with natural grass, or stunted ti-tree, or fern, or other vegetation of any kind whatsoever, except trees.
"Commissioner" shall mean the person who for the time being shall fill the office of Commissioner of Crown Lands.
"Duly authorised Surveyor" shall mean any person authorised to survey under the said Act by appointment in writing under the hand of the Chief Surveyor.
(1) The area allowed to be selected under the Homestead System by each person of the age of eighteen years or upwards, shall be, of first-class lands fifty acres, or of second-class lands seventy-five acres; and for persons under eighteen years of age, of first-class lands twenty acres, or of second-class lands thirty acres.
(2) On and after a certain day upon which blocks of first and second-class Waste Lands of the Crown shall have been proclaimed open for bona fide occupation under the said system, every person taking possession of any of the said land shall make written application to, and cause such application to be lodged with, the District Surveyor of the locality in which the land so proclaimed is situate, or such other person, and at such place, as the Superintendent shall from time to time appoint.
