20 M Malcolm Kennedy 45 Phthisis pulmonalis 1873. Jan. 4 April 21 107 20. This was a case of Phthisis pulmonalis. Several days before death had haematuria and great irritability of bladder. After death, mucous membrane of bladder was found in a state of ulceration, and the middle lobe of the prostate much enlarged.
21 F Jane Crick 30 Burn April 24 April 26 33 hours 21. Admitted with a universal burn caused by her clothes taking fire. Survived 33 hours. Inquest held.
22 M Peter McCarthy 28 Fever, typhoid April 18 April 29 11 22. He was admitted in an advanced state of Typhoid fever. Had no unfavourable symptoms at first, but soon began to purge and sweat profusely; the tongue was red and dry; pulse rose from 104 to 135; urine sanguineous. After death a perforated ulcer of ilium was detected.
23 M William All 33 Pneumonia. March 21 May 5 46 23. Admitted with general Syphilitic cachexia. Nutrition much hindered by ulceration of throat and nose. At last was carried off by pneumonia affecting the upper lobe of the right lung.*
24 M Wm. Henry Hitchings 73 Heart disease May 3 May 6 8 24. This case came from Mongonui in a dying state; lower limbs œdematous; heart found greatly enlarged.
25 M Alexander Oliver 65 Fracture of scull May 8 May 8 13 hours 25. Admitted in a comatose state from injury of the brain, having been run down by a horse. Survived only 13 hours. Fracture of skull 8½ inches long, on left side and base of cranium; cerebral substance broke through in anterior lobe. Inquest held on 10th instant; verdict, accidentally killed.
26 M George O’Connor 50 Heart disease April 28 May 11 18 26. Admitted with hypertrophy of heart and dropsy; breathing became very difficult, and death caused by asphyxia. Heart weighed 25 ozs.; mitral orifice dilated so as to admit four fingers; right lung in a state of purulent infiltration; left lung carnified and compressed by the hypertrophied heart; liver large and nutmegged.
27 M Josiah Collins 35 Phthisis pulmonalis May 14 May 22 8 27. Admitted in the last stage of phthisis pulmonalis: Right lung collapsed; pleura full of pus; left lung, apex hollowed out into large vomices, rest of lung full of tubercles; liver, nutmeg.
28 M Patrick O’Dowd 65 Paralysis 1869. Sept. 20 May 23 1340 28. Admitted for hemiplegia. Declined very slowly, and at last died comatose.
29 M James Gorman 51 Pneumonia May 15 June 1 17 29. Admitted for chronic pneumonia. Both lungs found filled with crude tubercles; upper lobe of left lung emphysematous. Liver large, nutmeg, and of a yellowish color.
30 M John Stone 41 Bronchitis 1872. Dec. 30 June 5 158 30. A case of chronic bronchitis with dyspnoea and evidence of mediastinal tumor pressing on trachea; both lungs solidified by chronic pneumonia; serum in left pleura; a fibrous tumor pressed on the trachea.
31 M Thomas Gallery 28 Phthisis pulmonalis May 21 June 9 19 31. An ordinary case of phthisis pulmonalis. No post mortem examination.
