REGULATION (No. 14).

REGULATION of the Council of the City of Auckland made under the Special Order of the said Council, dated the first day of April, One thousand eight hundred and seventy three, confirmed and sealed with the Common Seal of the Council of the said City, the fifth day of May, One thousand eight hundred and seventy three.

In pursuance of Section 88, Subdivision 4, Part X., of the 13th Schedule of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867, the Council of the City of Auckland make the following Regulation, that is to say—

1. So much of the Regulation numbered Three, and intituled Regulations for Hawkers, as relates to the selling of Farm and Dairy produce and Fruit in the Public Streets or thoroughfares, is hereby repealed.

2. From and after the date of this Regulation coming into operation, it shall be lawful for the Inspector of the Market, within the said City, for the time being, or such other person or persons as the Council of the said City may from time to time appoint to grant authority for and on behalf of the Council of the said City for the Hawking of Fruit, Vegetables, Roots, Poultry, Eggs, Fresh Butter, and Green Fodder in any street or place within the said City.

3. Any holder of a stall or standing in the Market who may be desirous of being allowed to hawk the marketable commodities aforesaid, shall, on application to the Market Inspector, or other person appointed as aforesaid, receive a certificate under the hand of the Town Clerk, authorising the hawking of the said marketable commodities by the holder thereof for such period as he or she may continue to hold such stall or standing.

4. Such certificate shall not be held to authorise the hawking of the said marketable commodities until the lapse of two hours after the opening of the Market.

5. The holder of any such certificate, or the servant of any holder of such certificate, shall, when hawking in any street or place within the said City, be required to have affixed on some conspicuous place on the exterior of his or her Cart, Dray, Barrow, Basket, or other Vehicle a board or plate to be supplied by the City Council having the words “Authorised Hawker” legibly painted thereon.
