The Whareora Highway District.

Amended Boundaries.

Bounded towards the north by the Putanui stream from its confluence with the Mangakino river to the south-western boundary of Te Maruata block, thence by part of the south-western and the whole of the north-western boundaries of said block to the Waitangi river, thence southerly by said river, and by the western boundary of the Huanui block to the northern boundary of the Whareora block and continuing along said northern boundary to the summit of Whanui mountain; towards the south-east by the south-eastern boundary of the Whareora block afore said to the Awaroa river; towards the south by that river and high water mark of Whangarei harbour to the mouth of the Waitaua river; and towards the west by the Waitaua river aforesaid and the Mangakino river to the place of commencement.

In pursuance of the fifth section of “The Highways Act, 1871,” I do hereby bring the said Act into operation within the

Tamahere Highway District,

and I do hereby appoint the First Meeting of Ratepayers, to take place at the residence of Mr. Hargreaves, at Tamahere, on Saturday the 23rd day of November instant, at two o’clock in the afternoon, and Patrick Leslie, Esq., J.P., to be Chairman of such Meeting.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

In pursuance of the powers and authority vested in the Auckland Harbour Board the following Ferry Regulations in the Port of Auckland are hereby made.

  1. The owner or owners of every vessel or boat, whether propelled by steam or not, employed as a ferry boat within the Port of Auckland shall obtain from the Auckland Harbour Board a license to ply for that purpose; but a license shall not be issued to the owner or owners of any such vessel or boat until he has or they have produced a receipt from the Harbour Master or other authorised person stating that the boat is properly equipped and fit for the ferry service and capable of carrying a certain number of passengers. The certificate of license shall, besides containing the name and description of the boat, and the name or names of the owner or owners and his or their place or places of residence, contain also the names of the places, wharves, piers, and jetties from which it is intended the boat shall ply and the number of passengers which the boat is licensed to carry.

The owner or owners of any vessel or boat plying as a ferry boat within the said Port without being licensed under this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five Pounds for each offence.

  1. Every licensed ferry boat shall have a fixed time-table approved of from time to time by the Auckland Harbour Board shewing the days and hours upon at which such boat shall run between the places set forth in the license, such time-table to be displayed in some conspicuous place on board each ferry boat, and at the several landing places, and to be strictly adhered to unless prevented from so doing by stress of weather or any accidental cause, and the master or person in charge of any ferry boat not complying with this regulation, or who shall wilfully obstruct or hinder any other ferry boat from keeping her appointed time at any ferry landing place shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five pounds for each offence.

  2. In the event of accident or want of repairs to any ferry boat upon a certificate from the Harbour Master to that effect the master or owner or owners may substitute another boat in lieu thereof subject to the approval of the Harbour Master, to be given in writing.

  3. The passenger fares and other rates to be charged by ferry boats shall be fixed by the Auckland Harbour Board.

  4. Every master or person in charge of any ferry boat who shall carry in such boat more passengers or cargo than the boat has been licensed to carry shall, for each offence, be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five pounds.

  5. Harbour-masters and pilots when in discharge of their duty shall be carried in all ferry boats free of charge.

  6. No ferry boat with passengers on board shall at any time be used as a tug-boat for any vessel whose tonnage shall exceed fifteen tons, except for the purposes of the ferry service, such as towing punts with stock on board; and no live stock shall be carried on the bridge or afterpart of any ferry boat. The master or person in charge of any ferry boat contravening this Regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding Five pounds for each offence.

  7. For the purposes of the above Regulations the Queen Street Wharf on the South shore of Auckland Harbour and the several public wharves and jetties on the North Shore, and such other landing places as may hereafter be proclaimed, shall be special landing places for ferry boats.
