TO THE CHAIRMEN OF DISTRICT HIGHWAY BOARDS.

THE attention of Chairmen of District Boards is requested to section 36 of “The Highways Act, 1871,” which requires that at the end of the Assessment List shall be subjoined “a notice of a time and place when and where the Board will hear and decide upon all objections thereto, provided that the time named shall not be less than one calendar month from and after the date of such notice.” The same section further requires that a copy of the Assessment List certified under the hand of the Chairman of the Board shall be forwarded to the Provincial Government Office for notification in the Provincial Government Gazette.

HAURAKI GOLDFIELD.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

IN pursuance of the 29th section of “The Goldfields Act, 1866,” and of the Regulations made under that Act for the granting of Leases for Gold Mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant Leases for Gold Mining purposes to the applicants specified in the Schedule hereunder unless valid objections can be shown against granting such Leases.

Copies of the applications made, and plans annexed, may be seen at the Warden’s Office, Grahamstown.

SCHEDULE.

FRANCIS JOSEPH WARDELL, of Thames Goldfield, Sharebroker : 15 years’ lease of 16 acres, situated on the Wio Karaka and Karaka Creeks ; bounded by the “Queen of May” Gold Mining Company’s ground, the “Bird in Hand” and the “Una” Battery, Thames Goldfield; not held under Miners’ Rights ; application received in Warden’s Office, Grahamstown, at 11.35 a.m. on 31st July, 1871—R.B. 940.

THE Cremorne Gold Mining Company, to be Registered: applied for by Sylvester Percy ; 15 years’ lease of 16 acres, quartz reef; bounded by the “Scottish Crown” Lease, “Queen of the May” Lease, “Savage” Claim, and “Bird in Hand” Lease, Karaka; not held under Miner’s Rights ; application received in Warden’s Office, Grahamstown, at 12.45 p.m. 31st July, 1871—R.B. 941.

ALEXANDER BEVERIDGE, of Grahamstown, Miner; 15 years’ lease of 10 acres, more or less, quartz land ; bounded by the “Crown Prince,” “Prince Imperial,” and the beach, Karaka Block ; unoccupied ground ; application received in Warden’s Office, Grahamstown, at 11.45 a.m., on 1st August, 1871—R.B. 942.

MICHAEL HANNAFORD, of Grahamstown ; 15 years’ lease of 16 acres, auriferous ground; bounded by the “Bright Smile” and “Bird in Hand” claims, and in other directions by unoccupied ground ; not held under Miner’s Rights ; Claim known as the “First of August” ; application received in Warden’s Office, Grahamstown, at 3.57 p.m., 1st August, 1871—R.B. 943.

THE Sir Walter Scott Gold Mining and Quartz Crushing Company, Limited, applied for by Charles Wallnutt ; 15 years’ lease of 16¾ acres, bounded on the north by “Conqueror” lease, and on all other sides by unoccupied ground, including ground lately held by the “Adelaide,” “Lucky Hit,” “Star of Fermanagh,” “Bud of Hope,” “Royal Mint,” and “Greenstone” Gold Mining Companies, Karaka Block; leases held by the “Mary Ellen” and “Lucky Hit” Gold
