Mining Leases and Notices




AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

  1. Three members of such Board shall be elected
    in the month of May 1871 by and out of the persons
    who shall have paid two pounds or upwards of port
    harbour pilotage or wharfage dues or charges within
    the port of Auckland during the preceding year or
    who at the time of such election shall be or within
    twenty-eight days preceding such election shall have
    been the owners or part owners and whose name shall
    appear as such owners or part owners within such
    twenty-eight days on the books of the Custom-House
    at Auckland of any vessel to the extent of twenty
    tons or upwards Provided however that in any case
    where such dues or charges shall have been paid by
    two or more persons jointly or where any such vessel
    as aforesaid shall be owned by more than one person
    only one of such persons paying or owning as the case
    may be shall be entitled to vote in respect of such
    payment or ownership.

  2. On the third Monday in the month of May
    1871 at the hour of noon in a place to be previously
    notified by the Superintendent of the Province a
    meeting of the electors qualified as in the last pre-ceding sections mentioned shall be held at which
    meeting not less than ten electors being present the
    aforesaid three members of the Board shall be elected
    by ballot by a majority of the qualified electors then
    present the said meeting having power to elect its own
    Chairman who shall have a casting vote but no delib-erative vote and who shall decide all questions of quali-fications to vote by causing the claimant then and
    there to produce receipts in his favour for the before-mentioned dues or charges or a certificate of ownership
    or other sufficient document from the Collector of
    Customs or other proper officer as the case may be.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

In pursuance of the 29th section of “The Goldfields
Act, 1866,” and of the Regulations made under
that Act for the granting of Leases for Gold Mining
purposes, it is hereby notified that it is intended to
grant Leases for Gold Mining purposes to the appli-cants specified in the Schedule hereunder, unless valid
objections can be shown against granting such Leases.
Copies of the applications made, and plans annexed,
may be seen at the Warden’s Office, Grahamstown.

SCHEDULE.

William Souter and James Darrow, both of Thames
Goldfield, miners; applied for by William Souter;
15 years’ lease of 16 acres, bounded by Tinkers’
Gully on the North, by the “Ladybird and
Hand of Friendship” Claim on the East, and
by the “City of Dunedin” Claim on the South,
Tararu Block; part of ground held under Miners’
Right and part under lease granted to James
Robb and surrendered for the purpose of this
application; application received in Warden’s
Office, Grahamstown, at 11 a.m. on the 1st May
1871. R.B. 854.

Stephen Eddy Richards, of the Thames Goldfields,
mining manager; 15 years’ lease of 6 acres, being
all that ground situated on the Waiotahi Creek,
formerly known as the “Duchess of Kent” and
“Two-Finger” Claims and adjoining land,
Kanaka Block; ground held under Miners’
Rights and known as the “Golden Sceptre”
Claim; application received in Warden’s Office,
Grahamstown, at 10:40 a.m. on the 3rd May,
1871. R.B. 855.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, 9th May, 1871.

It is hereby notified that, in pursuance of sub-section
3 of section 35 of the Regulations for the granting
of Mining Leases, re-entry has been made by the
Lessor upon the ground demised by the Leases here-under described, and the Lessees’ estates therein deter-mined, and that the lands therein mentioned are now
open for occupation.

Plans may be seen at the Engineer’s Office
Grahamstown.

15 years’ lease of 7 acres 5 perches, 21 men’s
ground, adjoining the “Fiery Cross,” “Silver
Crown” and “Sailor Prince” Claims, Tararu
Creek; lease dated 10th February, 1870.

Alexander Bayne Bain; 15 years’ lease of 11
acres 32 perches, 33 men’s ground, adjoining the
“Upper Thames” and “Royal Sussex” Claims;
lease dated 6th August, 1870.

The Atlantic Gold Mining Company, Registered;
15 years’ lease of 4 acres 3 roods 6 perches, 14
men’s ground, adjoining the “Auckland,” “Band
of Hope,” “British Ensign,” and “Clunes”
Claims, Collarbone Creek; lease dated 6th July,
1870.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Auckland, 6th May, 1871.

It is hereby notified that the Mining Leases set forth
in the Schedule hereunder have been surrendered,
and that the land therein mentioned is now open for
occupation.

Plans may be seen at the Engineer’s Office at
Grahamstown.

12 men’s ground, situated at Tinkers’ Gully;
lease dated 14th April, 1870, surrendered 6th
May, 1871.
