AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

REGULATIONS relative to the Receipt and Delivery of Gunpowder, and Charges for Storage, &c., in the Magazine at Mount Eden Gaol, Auckland.

1st. No person shall be allowed to enter the Magazine with anything on or about his person, which may be liable to cause ignition, or explosion, of any gunpowder; and it is the imperative duty of the Magazine keeper, to see that this Regulation is strictly enforced.

2nd. Strangers shall not have access to the Magazine without authority, and then only in the presence of the Magazine keeper.

3rd. The Magazine keeper shall, previous to receiving any barrel or other package of gunpowder, ascertain by a personal examination that every barrel or other package is perfectly tight and secure, and free from any possibility of an accident.

4th. Should any barrel or other package be discovered to be in an unsafe state, the owner must make every such barrel or package perfectly safe before the Magazine keeper receives any such barrel or package in the Magazine.

5th. Loose or insecure barrels or packages of gunpowder shall not be permitted to be made secure within the precincts of the Magazine, nor shall barrels or packages be opened within the Magazine.

6th. The Magazine keeper must be careful that every kind of friction is avoided in the removal or storage of barrels or packages, and that a sufficient space is allowed for circulation of air.

7th. The Magazine keeper shall, as far as practicable, keep the barrels and packages of the various owners together, and their distinguishing marks visible.

8th. Smoking or fire of any kind shall, under no circumstances, be permitted within the Magazine enclosure.

9th. Gunpowder shall not be taken from the Magazine without the necessary permits or Customs’ license, nor at any other hours than those which may be appointed for the purpose from time to time by notice in the Provincial Government Gazette. Powder for Military purposes, when placed in the Magazine for safe keeping, being the only exception.

10th. Rates for storage to be:

For every quarter barrel, or parcel containing 25 lbs.—three farthings per week.

For every half barrel, or parcel containing over 25 lbs. and not more than 50 lbs.—three half-pence per week.

For every barrel, or parcel containing over 50 lbs. and not more than 100 lbs.—three pence per week.

For every barrel or parcel containing more than 100 lbs. a charge of three farthings per week for every 25 lbs. or fraction of 25 lbs. over the 100 lbs, in addition to the charge for 100 lbs above named.

For ammunition made up in cartridges, the charge will be one-third less than the above.

UNDER and in pursuance of the powers in me vested by the third clause of “The Highways Act, 1867,” I do hereby notify that I have altered and amended the boundaries of the WHAINGAROA Highway District, as hereunder set forth.

Given under my hand at Auckland, this twelfth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

THE WHAINGAROA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

Amended Boundaries.

Bounded towards the North by the waters of the Whaingaroa harbour from the Ohira Creek to the mouth of the Waitetuna River; towards the North-east by the Waitetuna River aforesaid, from its mouth to the Eastern angle of allotment No. 60 of the Parish of Whaingaroa; towards the South-east by the Southern boundary of allotment No. 60 of the Parish of Whaingaroa aforesaid, from the Waitetuna River before mentioned to the South-eastern angle of said lot No. 60, thence in a western direction by lines being the Southern and Westerly boundary of the Provincial Government land to the Eastern boundary of the Karioi Highway District; and towards the West by the Eastern boundary of the Karioi Highway District aforesaid, from the point last named to the mouth of the Ohira Creek first mentioned, the place of commencement.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

BY virtue of the powers in me vested by the third clause of “The Highways Act, 1867,” I do hereby notify that all that portion of the Province of Auckland, hereunder described, shall be a District under the said Act, and that such District shall be known by the name thereto prefixed, that is to say, those which may be appointed for the purpose from time to time by notice in the Provincial Government Gazette.

THE KARIOI HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

Bounded towards the North by the waters of the Whaingaroa harbour from the Northernmost angle of allotment No. 15 of the Parish of Karioi; to the mouth of the Ohira Creek; towards the East by the Ohira Creek (i.e. the Eastern boundary of Chamberlin’s land) aforesaid from its mouth, to a point on said Creek, being the production in an Easterly direction of the Northern boundary of allotment No. 34, of the Parish of Whaingaroa, thence by the said straight line to the Eastern boundary of allotment No. 34, of the Parish of Whaingaroa aforesaid, thence by the Eastern and part of the Southern boundary of said allotment No. 34, the Western and part of the Southern boundary of allotment No. 40 of Parish last named, the Eastern boundary of allotment No. 22, part of the Northern and the whole of the South-eastern boundary of allotment No. 63, the South-eastern boundaries of allotments Nos. 64, 65, 66, and 67, part of the North-eastern boundary of allotment No. 88, the North-eastern and South-eastern boundaries of lot No. 90, and the Eastern boundaries of allotments Nos. 92 and 84, to the South-eastern angle of last named lot, all of the Parish of Whaingaroa aforesaid, thence in a straight line from the South-eastern angle of allotment No. 84, of the Parish of Whaingaroa aforesaid, to the Matau (old pah) on the Pakoka Creek (Aotea harbour), thence by the Pakoka Creek aforesaid, and the waters of the Aotea harbour aforesaid, to the North Head of said harbour; and towards the West and North-west by high water mark of the sea, from the North Head of
