I HEREBY notify that I have appointed

CHARLES O’NEILL, ESQ., A.I.C.E.,

at present holding the appointment of Engineer-in-Chief of Railways, Tramways, and Wharves upon the Thames Gold Field, to be also PROVINCIAL ENGINEER and CHIEF SURVEYOR OF THE GOLD FIELD.

THE following Act passed by the Provincial Council, and assented to by the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, intituled “The City Board Loan Acts Consolidation Act, 1868,” having been laid before the Governor, His Excellency has not been advised to exercise his power of disallowance in respect of it.

All private notices or advertisements intended for insertion in the Gazette, must be forwarded to the Superintendent’s Office accompanied by prepayment of the charge for advertising according to the rates above specified.

Such matter must be legibly written on one side of the paper only; and the number of insertions required must be signified in writing across the face of the copy.

The Government will not guarantee the publication of any such notice or advertisement within a given date; nor will the same be inserted unless prepaid.

Copies of the Gazette may be obtained at the Superintendent’s Office, on payment of one shilling per copy.

After Parliament moved to Wellington in 1865, the Auckland Provincial Council sat in General Assembly House (depicted).

It was nicknamed the 'Shedifice' as it was large and drafty, with a leaking roof. First premier Henry Sewell described it as 'a great wooden barnshaped affair, which might serve for a Hospital, a Jail, or a Barrack'.
